Gemma Castro is a Los Angeles–based musician, artist, and filmmaker working across sound, image, and performance. Her work explores intimacy, memory, and desire, moving fluidly between songwriting, experimental sound, film, and performance.
Castro is a Grammy Award-winning recording engineer recognized for her work on NxWorries’ Why Lawd? and has worked in the studio with artists including Anderson .Paak, SiR, Empress Of, Yves Tumor, Suzanne Ciani, and Julia Holter. As a musician, she has toured extensively and opened for artists including The Marías and The Altons.
As a composer and sound artist, Castro has received commissions from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Alliance for Women Film Composers, and the Mike Kelley Foundation. Her film and sound work has been exhibited at Human Resources LA and SOMArts.
